Program faculty conducted several presentations at the 2011 Conference of the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTER), the International Vocational Education and Training Association (IVETA), and the Delta Pi Epsilon (Business Education) conferences held concurrently on November 15-17 in St. Louis, Missouri as part of the national conference of the Association of Career and Technical Education (ACTE).
The conference theme for this year's ACTER conference was Advancing Research, Policy, and Practice in CTE: 21st Century Workforce Development. As part of the ACTER Conference, Drs. Eddie Fletcher and Victor Hernandez presented the preliminary findings of the study entitled, The Status of Career and Technical Education Masters Programs in the United States. Fletcher also presented the results of the study Demographic Differences and Schooling Experience as Predictors of Career Choice, for which he received an award for Outstanding Presentation.
In turn, the conference theme for the 2011 meeting of IVETA was TVET Staff Development: Meeting the Needs of the Knowledge Economy. Under this theme, Dr. Johanna Lasonen, in collaboration with Dr. Marianne Teräs, Researcher from the University of Helsinki (Finland), presented the results of the study, Development of TVET Professionals’ Intercultural Competence.
Finally, in collaboration with Drs. Kathy Mountjoy and Glenn Bailey of Illinois State University, Fletcher presented the results of the study Exploring the Meaning Business Education Teacher Candidates Ascribed to Their Student Teaching Experiences and the Challenges and Concerns They Encountered at the Delta Pi Epsilon conference.
